Story

I am running the London Marathon in memory of Hollie, my niece for Bowel Cancer UK. Thank you for taking the time to visit Hollie's memory page. I have decided to run another marathon. I know, I said never again, but please read my reason why. 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime, that is pretty scary. My beautiful niece Hollie became unwell in December 2022 and after tests was treated for a blockage and a stent was fitted. Further tests followed and Hollie was told it was probably cancer but this was not confirmed until 24th March 2023. She eventually started chemotherapy and was so brave, positive and determined to fight this awful disease. As many of you know I lost my daughter in 2021 and Hollie was my rock and although she was so poorly she never stopped thinking of others. Only close family and a few friends knew of her cancer diagnosis. Even though treatment initially caused hair loss and other symptoms she still looked her beautiful self, always made up and never feeling sorry for herself. We thought that we would have more time with her but sadly she lost her life on 24th September 2023 aged just 40. None of us expected her to be taken so quickly. More money is needed to eradicate this dreadful disease which can hit anyone at any age. I am 65 this year so unfortunately not getting faster but I will do my best. I have started my training and sticking to it with support and help from friends. 17 miles on Sunday, tough - half marathon next week, but I only have the physical pain for the duration of my race. Please donate however big or small!!
